Harry Kane shares what he loves about playing with Trent Alexander-Arnold for England

England have a long list of star players in their Euro 2024 squad, and are undoubtedly among the favourites to lift the trophy.

The nation have come close in major tournaments under Gareth Southgate, with many fans expecting another strong run this time around.

The likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden are likely to take centre stage, with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s role still uncertain.

The Liverpool star has been named as a midfielder in the squad, with the 25-year-old massively dividing opinion before their opening match.

The Three Lions meet Serbia first up, with Gary Neville tipping Alexander-Arnold to start in Southgate’s midfield.

Why Harry Kane loves playing alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold

His former Manchester United teammate Roy Keane is, however, fearing the worst for the nation if they opt to play the Liverpool man in that role against the big teams.

But Alexander-Arnold’s England teammate Kane is certainly a big fan of the player, regardless of what role he is playing in.

“Trent has shown his abilities over many seasons now,” said Kane, as quoted by the print edition of the Sunday Mirror [page 75]. “That’s from right-back or dropping into that midfield role.

“He’s got amazing delivery from wide areas, amazing vision with his passes – and as a striker you can only love that. If you are making runs there is someone there looking for you.

“You might not always get the ball but it’s important that the midfielders and the strikers have that connection where you are willing to make the runs because they have the ability to put the ball in behind.”

Where will Trent Alexander-Arnold play under Arne Slot at Liverpool?

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot will undoubtedly be keeping tabs on all of his international players this summer, perhaps mainly hoping that they avoid injury.

But he may just be keeping a close eye on Alexander-Arnold in particular, especially if he does operate in midfield at Euro 2024.

Everyone is fully aware of the player’s quality on the ball, although questions marks do remain over his defensive awareness.

Slot has a major decision to make regarding the academy graduate, who has already shone in midfield for England.

He has also operated in the role at club level, having at times played as an inverted full-back under Jurgen Klopp.

Former England striker Gary Lineker really wants to see Alexander-Arnold in midfield in a red shirt next season, but the decision will ultimately come down to Slot.
