Louisville (Ky.) Male class three-star IOL Isaac “Spike” Sowells was back in Miami this past weekend for his official visit with the Hurricanes, who are becoming a major contender in his recruitment.

“It was great,” Sowells said. “Getting to hang out with all the recruits and stuff, coach (Alex) Mirabal, coach (Mario) Cristobal were all great. I saw a little of Miami I hadn’t seen before outside the facilities, which was a great experience.”

This weekend’s visit to Coral Gables was Sowells’ first since March, and this time around the No. 526 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, believes he got a much more in-depth look at the program.

“We got to go into the film room and watch some cutups that coach Mirabal prepared,” Sowells said. “Just looking at all the different techniques they have, because it is a lot. Just got to learn a little bit of what they do and their philosophy and see their plan for me coming in here and contributing to the offensive line room.”

His favorite part of the weekend?

“They took us to South Beach, took us to eat, took us to Hard Rock Stadium, we got to ride a boat around Miami seeing all the million dollar homes and all the cruise ships, things like that,” Sowells said. “I got to see what the feel of Miami was.”

With one official left to go after visiting Miami, South Carolina, and Kentucky, Sowells will visit NC State next weekend. After taking his final trip of the summer, Sowells will sit down with his family and discuss a handful of things before making his final decision. A decision is tentatively scheduled for July 18.

“One thing with this visit, the weather down here out of all them was the best,” Sowell said. “Miami offered me in January and those other schools offered me a long time ago, but Miami has done a great job making up a lot of ground in my recruitment and stirring the pot a little bit.”

One final takeaway from him off this Canes visit?

“I truly believe they have a plan for me, want to develop me and make me the best player they can,” Sowells said.

CaneSport’s take

Sowells says that after he visits NC State, he’ll go over the pros and cons off all the visits and look for that special feeling he has about one program. “I’ll talk it over with my parents and pray about it,” he said. Certainly Miami put itself in a good spot here off this visit, so we’ll see what happens next.
