Former Indiana State pitcher Luke Hayden committed to play for Jay Johnson and LSU Baseball, according to an announcement on his Twitter on Saturday. He’s the fourth pitcher brought in by Johnson this offseason.

That makes five transfers headed to Baton Rouge. Mount St. Mary’s pitcher Deven Sheerin, Wofford transfer Zac Cowan, USF pitcher Chandler Dorsey and Indiana State transfer catcher and infielder Luis Hernandez are the other transfers so far.

Hayden started his career at Indiana before transferring in state. Now, he’ll head to the SEC in 2025, joining a loaded roster with the Tigers, which includes his former teammate and power hitter Luis Hernandez

Last season, Hayden went 7-2 and had a 3.81 ERA. He registered 78 innings pitched, gave up 73 hits, 40 runs, 33 earned runs, 47 walks and 91 strikeouts.

LSU head coach Jay Johnson is navigating players making decisions on their futures as well. In the meantime, the Tigers continue to address their pitching staff with multiple additions.

“Obviously, there are some situations where guys are in between pro baseball and coming back,” Johnson said last week. “All of those guys will be welcomed back and have a place on our roster. Even with that, we have a lot of work to do to have the team we want to have. It will have a lot of high impact. I’m not so worried about the numbers. That’s where my head is at in terms of building the roster moving forward and at a place like LSU you can do that. It’s really fluid right now.”
