Report shares what Man City are willing to do now to convince Pep Guardiola to sign a new contract

A report has emerged revealing what Manchester City are ready to do to ensure Pep Guardiola extends his contract beyond June 2025.

At the end of May, it was claimed that the decision-makers at City would want Guardiola to decide his plans for the future by Christmas.

The £378,846-a-week man will not have the time to sit back, relax and enjoy watching his players at the European Championship. But simultaneously, it was claimed last month that Guardiola will spend this time and the months ahead before the new season to decide his future.

Man City tactic to ensure Pep Guardiola signs new contract revealed

The ideal scenario for the higher-ups at Manchester City would be to discover where the Catalan stands early into the 2024/2025 season. Regardless of the two-time treble-winner’s final decision, City will have the chance to proceed accordingly.

The Mirror have claimed that Manchester City are prepared to offer Guardiola an increase in his wages — despite him taking home a whopping £20 million per annum in wages.

However, the report states that Guardiola’s decision about his future at the Etihad Stadium will not be financially motivated.

Unsurprising to hear Pep Guardiola is not concerned about the finances

Having dominated club football for over a decade at Manchester City and other clubs, Guardiola is perhaps not motivated by finances any longer.

Managers like the former Bayern Munich boss live and breathe the game and they seem to veer towards any project that injects a fresh sense of buzz in them.

Whether Manchester City still gives him that feeling, having been at the club for eight years and achieved it all is the million-dollar question.

City’s selling point to Guardiola to persuade him to extend his current deal must be focused on their future plans as a club rather than simply boosting his wages.

Ultimately, a manager of the 53-year-old’s standing in the game can earn a handsome wage wherever he goes next as virtually every team in world football will be willing to pay him a king’s ransom to secure his services. But the deciding factor for Guardiola could emerge by the project that appeals to him the most.
