'At this stage': Whether Levi Colwill would actually be open to joining Bayern Munich this summer - journalist

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill could have a big decision to make this summer.

It has been reported that Bayern Munich are considering making a move for Levi Colwill.

Chelsea are the 21-year-old’s boyhood club and he got a lot of game time there last season.

In total, Colwill made 32 appearances for the Blues and even got to captain the team on one occasion.

However, Bayern are one of the giants of European football, while Colwill could face a battle to get into Enzo Maresca‘s team next season.

Levi Colwill’s stance on Bayern Munich move

Chelsea have just signed Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham, so that is another central defender who Colwill will have to compete against in the 2024/25 campaign.

In terms of the left-back position, Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell potentially stand in his way there.

It remains to be seen if the above is the reasoning of if it is something else, but it looks like Colwill could give serious consideration to joining Bayern this transfer window if an acceptable bid comes on.

Speaking about the German club’s interest in the centre-back, journalist Florian Plettenberg said on X: “FC Bayern have inquired about Levi Colwill in the last weeks as they also have gathered information about a potential transfer this summer!

“At this stage, Chelsea won’t let him go. But understand, Colwill would be open to join Bayern as soon as Bayern’s interest becomes concrete!”

Why Chelsea will have the final say on Levi Colwill’s future

Colwill may very well be open to joining Bayern this summer. But if Chelsea want to keep hold of the England international, then he will not be going anywhere.

Colwill still has a contract until 2029 after signing an extension last year. The Blues are under no pressure to sell him to Bayern or anyone else.

Liverpool are also thought to be interested in Colwill.

But given the length of his contract and value to the team, it would be a surprise if Chelsea allowed Colwill to depart.
