The Magpies will be well represented with the Three Lions this summer at the Euros, with Kieran Trippier expected to start at left-back tonight against Serbia with Anthony Gordon a wildcard option from the bench.

With Fabian Schar already impressing at the competition with Switzerland, Newcastle fans will be hopeful they can see similar performances from the likes of Trippier and Gordon in the days to come.

Newcastle interested in Iceland star Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson

According to the Sunday Mirror (16/06, pg 72), Newcastle are one of a handful of clubs interested in signing Icelandic international Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson, who scored the sole goal last week in England’s shock loss to the Nordic country.

With Wembley Stadium described as ‘stunned’ by Thorsteinsson’s goal, the 25-year-old OH Leuven forward is now seemingly on the radar for Premier League teams, with Newcastle joined by Leicester City and West Ham.

As per the report, though, it’s the Foxes who are leading the charge to sign Thorsteinsson, with Leicester and Leuven both sharing owners, making a deal a potential cake-walk for the newly-promoted Premier League side.

Indeed, Newcastle will need to act fast if they’re to land Thorsteinsson’s signature this summer, and this development could indicate that a potential deal is in the works for the Magpies.

Thorsteinsson could be a great bargain signing for the Magpies

Away from international heroics with Iceland, Thorsteinsson has had quite the year in Belgium with Leuven, with the forward bagging an impressive seven goals and seven assists in all competitions.

And with Newcastle in the market for a versatile attacker on the cheap, the 25-year-old Iceland international could a good option for Eddie Howe’s side, especially with so many financial factors at play.

With Thorsteinsson’s stock as high as it has ever been, now is the time for Newcastle to strike, and the Magpies could get lucky in beating Leicester for the Leuven star.
