Report: Newcastle consider signing 'amazing' Premier League player who Frank Lampard tipped for greatness

A new name has emerged in Newcastle United’s summer search for a right winger.

The Magpies are looking for an improvement on Miguel Almiron, who is deemed likely to leave St James’ Park before the 2024/25 season kicks off.

There have been some exciting players linked with moves to Tyneside, including Jarrod Bowen and Michael Olise.

Newcastle United have even made a move to sign Olise, reportedly initiating contact with Crystal Palace about a deal for the 22-year-old. But they face competition from the likes of Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Manchester City, with Olise very much a man in demand this summer.

And he will not be cheap either, with the attacker having a £60million release clause in his contract. That is a lot of money, but Newcastle must be willing to pay it – otherwise they surely would not bother making contact with Crystal Palace, who have no reason to let Olise leave for less than his release clause.

Newcastle United identify Michael Olise alternative

But given all the competition, it is going to be very difficult for Newcastle to tempt Olise up north.

That is why the club have alternatives, and iNews have provided details of a new player that is on Eddie Howe’s radar.

According to iNews, Chelsea winger Noni Madueke is on the Magpies’ shortlist, as they aim to sign a new right winger.

Madueke, who Mauricio Pochettino called ‘amazing‘ in May, is an interesting option, having only joined Chelsea 18 months ago. He arrived at Stamford Bridge in January 2023, costing £28.5million from PSV Eindhoven.

He signed a seven-and-a-half year deal at the time, but could be pushed down the pecking order if Olise chooses to join Chelsea.

Newcastle target Noni Madueke tipped to go far

Missing out on Olise could actually give Newcastle an advantage, and Madueke is certainly a player who would excite spectators inside St James’ Park. He is fast and direct, and really started to show signs of improvement towards the end of last season after a slow start to life in a Chelsea shirt.

The potential is there for all to see, and Eddie Howe is more than capable of taking Madueke to the next level.

And that is a level that Chelsea legend Frank Lampard believes the 22-year-old can reach, previously admitting that he expects Madueke to kick on and become a ‘big player‘ for the Blues.

Now there is a chance that Madueke’s Chelsea career could come to a premature end, but if he can be a big player for them then he can also be a big player for us.

How Madueke compares to Olise and Newcastle’s other wingers

While Madueke is a talented young player, most Toon fans would rather see Olise arrive at St James’ Park.

He has shown a lot more ability in the Premier League, and was much more impactful last season for Palace than Madueke was for Chelsea.

And in comparison to Newcastle’s right wingers, Madueke got similar numbers to Jacob Murphy, while he outperformed Miguel Almiron.

Based on last season’s stats, Madueke is not a major improvement on what we have already got. But he is also a player with a lot of potential, and could grow into a much more impactful attacker.

That is why he is an interesting option, and he could be very attainable if it is Chelsea who land Olise.
