Virginia outfielder Harrison Didawick may have springs in his legs. In the top of the third inning of Virginia’s elimination game against Florida State in the College World Series, Didawick made a jaw-dropping leap to rob the Seminoles of a run.

The catch ended the inning and kept the game tied at zero. After the stunning play, Virginia head coach Brian O’Connor praised Didawick for the pivotal moment.

“Great play,” O’Connor said. “This is what it takes this time of the year. You have to have guys step up and have big moments, and that was a great catch at the end of the inning.”

Didawick isn’t the only player who has stepped up for the Cavaliers in the elimination effort. Through the first two innings on the mound, right-handed pitcher Jay Woolfolk has been stellar, recording three strikeouts while only allowing one hit.

“He’s got great poise and he believes in himself,” Brian O’Connor said of his junior standout. “It was an up and down year for him, but we had a lot of confidence in him to put him in this rotation when we got to postseason time. It’s a matter what a young man—what does he do with the opportunity? And he has seized the opportunity.”

Virginia will look to follow Woolfolk’s lead. The winner between the Cavaliers and Florida State will keep its postseason hopes alive. The loser’s season will come to an end. Tune into the heated matchup on ESPN.
