A former Trump-era official said Sunday he doubts German Chancellor Olaf Scholz “really knows what he’s talking about" after he heaped praise on President Joe Biden, according to a new report.

Elbridge Colby, Trump's onetime Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development, took to X Sunday to slam the German chancellor for praising Biden at the G7 summit, Politico was first to report.

"Is the Chancellor in a position to comment on the U.S. economic and social cohesion situations?" Colby wrote. "I think this would elicit laughs if not outright scorn from many Americans."

Scholz had praised Biden as one of the world's most experienced politicians who had pursued policy of “proper economic development" and promoted “peace and security," Politico reports.

Politico reports the chancellor said he thought Biden was likely to win the presidential election in November.

In response, Colby — who has reportedly been tipped for a high-ranking national security position should Trump regain the White House in 2025 — argued the German leader had no right to speak publicly about American politics.

“It’s wildly inappropriate to comment on domestic American politics and elections," Colby claimed. "I question whether [Scholz] really knows what he’s talking about in the American context."

Colby's comments were subjected to scorn Sunday by critics who include former MSNBC host Keith Olbermann.

"Trump is a dictator-in-the-making," replied Olbermann. "And you serve him."

"I think it’s very telling that every country president except Russia loathes your convicted felon leader," added X user Marco Barbagli. "Every time I see you making excuse after excuse it makes me laugh in a way. But it’s also really depressing that you don’t see the problem."
