'I think' – Roy Keane asked to name his Euro 2024 'dark horse,' he's firmly convinced one team are 'no mugs'

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has insisted that one team are “no mugs” after naming his pick for the ‘dark horse’ nation at Euro 2024 in Germany.

Euro 2024 officially kicked off last week with host nation Germany thrashing 10-man Scotland 5-1 in their Group A opener at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Germany are one of the favourites to win the UEFA tournament this summer, with Portugal, England and France also widely tipped to come out on top at Euro 2024.

England kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Serbia, with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham scoring in the Group C clash.

France will play their opening Group D match against Austria on Monday, while Portugal face the Czech Republic on Tuesday in their Group F opener.

Several Manchester United players are representing their countries at Euro 2024 this summer, including the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund.

Keane names his Euro 2024 ‘dark horse’

Speaking to ITV Sport (via TikTok), former Manchester United star Roy Keane was asked for his predictions for Euro 2024.

Keane, who is part of the punditry line-up for ITV, paused for a moment when he was asked about his dark horse at Euro 2024 before naming Switzerland as his pick.

“I think Switzerland are no mugs,” he said.

“Whether they can go on and win it, but I think that [they] could definitely get to the latter stages.”

Switzerland are in Group A alongside host nation Germany and Murat Yakin’s men kicked off their Euro 2024 campaign with a 3-1 win over Hungary on Saturday.

Germany are top of Group A and Switzerland are level on points in second place, with Hungary and Scotland left in third and fourth place respectively.

Switzerland will play Scotland on Wednesday before Murat Yakin’s side face Germany on Sunday in their final Group A clash at the tournament.

Keane is alone with Switzerland pick at Euro 2024

Arsenal hero Ian Wright didn’t see eye to eye with Keane on the Euro 2024 dark horse and the ITV pundit picked Albania as his choice.

“Albania. I’m going to go with my Albanian mates. They’ll love that,” he said.

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness, on the other hand, was torn on a dark horse and the former Sky Sports pundit named the Netherlands and Portugal as his two picks.

“Two teams: Portugal and Holland,” he said.

Tim Sherwood believes that former United interim manager Ralf Rangnick could lead Austria to the last 16 at Euro 2024 after praising the work that he has done so far.

Picking his dark horse, he said: “Well, I don’t they gonna win it, but I think Austria actually have got quite a good team.

“And Ralf Rangnick, I know he got a lot of stick at Manchester United, but he’s done really well with Austria and I think they definitely get to the round of 16.”
