‘Wasn’t the best…’: Why Fabio Silva’s representatives are fuming at Wolves amid talk of summer exit

The agent of Wolves striker Fabio Silva has opened up on the player’s experience at Molineux during the 2023/24 season.

Wolves have got to work early in the summer transfer window, with two deals already made official.

Tommy Doyle’s move from Manchester City was made permanent while 20-year-old Rodrigo Gomes was acquired from Braga for £12.7m.

As well as new arrivals, departures are expected at Molineux, with Fabio Silva likely to be one of the first to exit on his return from an underwhelming loan spell at Rangers.

The Portuguese striker’s agent, Carlos Oliveira, recently opened up on the transfer interest the 21-year-old has accumulated in Italy, with a Wolves exit certain this summer.

Agent of Fabio Silva accuses Wolves of broken promises amid transfer links

Oliveira sat down with TuttoMercatoWeb to discuss updates on his client’s future, with Silva already making his thoughts on Wolves known.

While a lot of the conversation revolved around Silva’s plans for the future as he looks to exit Molineux two years before his contract expires, Oliveira shared his dissatisfaction at what happened at Wolves in 2023/24.

The agent accused Gary O’Neil and the Midlands club of breaking promises at the start of last season prior to Silva’s loan move to Ibrox.

“The first part of the season at Wolves wasn’t the best, Fabio didn’t play much. Wolverhampton had made us promises, so Fabio was willing to stay in the team, but then the promises made failed.

“The second part of the season, however, was positive. Although he didn’t play in his role, Fabio made himself available to the coach and the team, scoring goals and making assists.

“It was a learning experience, he learned about the game better and I’m sure it will be useful to him in the future.”

Silva ended the 2023/24 campaign having secured 35 appearances, scoring seven goals, six of which came during his time in Glasgow.

Wolves did what was possible with Silva last season

There is some truth to Oliveira’s comments, as Silva did not feature often for Wolves in O’Neil’s system, recording 10 appearances where he scored one goal.

The Portugal U21 ace was awarded three starts in the Premier League during that time however, failed to make an impact to convince the manager that he was best equipped in the starting XI.

O’Neil had little choice but to push others above Silva in the pecking order based on performance, leading to the 21-year-old’s move to Rangers in January.

There is some relief that clarity has been shed on Silva’s transfer situation, with a Molineux exit the best decision for both player and club ahead of next term.
