Wolves now ‘looking to sell’ a player signed by Nuno Santo for a loss as asking price emerges - journalist

Wolves are now ‘looking to sell’ a player signed by Nuno Espirito Santo for a loss as a fresh asking price emerges.

Gary O’Neil’s men have made a fast start to the summer transfer window, with Wolves wrapping up permanent deals for Tommy Doyle and Rodrigo Gomes.

The Wanderers triggered Doyle’s release clause at the start of May while Rodrigo was acquired for £12.7 million on Wednesday.

It’s a very promising start to the window, although O’Neil accepts there is still plenty of work to be done, especially with several players poised to leave the club.

Wolves are facing up to the fact that could lose money on a few players, including Fabio Silva, Goncalo Guedes and Daniel Podence.

Wolves asking price for Daniel Podence

A player signed by Nuno Espirito Santo for £17 million in January 2020, Podence is likely to leave Molineux this summer.

The 28-year-old was loaned out to Greek giants Olympiacos last year and celebrated a Europa Conference League triumph, with the Portuguese winger loving his time there.

Podence is now keen on returning to the club permanently as his latest comments suggest he no longer sees his future at Wolves, saying: “I came here in a difficult situation, I went to England, I did well, but I felt that they didn’t value me as I wanted and I came back to a club where they like me a lot.”

Prior to his departure from Wolverhampton, he was key figure in attack, amassing 105 appearances and producing 24 goal contributions.

A Greek journalist has now revealed that Wolves will be looking for between £5m – £10m to get him off the books, posting a significant loss on their initial £17m outlay.

Rodrigo Gomes is an upgrade on Daniel Podence

Wolves supporters will be happy to see the back of Podence following his latest comments and luckily, the signing of Rodrigo Gomes serves as an upgrade on the Portuguese winger.

Rodrigo has been described by O’Neil is possessing exceptional versatility, capable of being deployed as wing-back, attacking midfielder and winger across various systems.

That is the complete opposite to Podence, who has spent most of his career playing as a right or left winger.

Still only 20-years-old, Rodrigo has so many years to develop into the finished article and refine his skills at Molineux, whereas the wantaway Wolves winger has reached the peak of his powers in terms of development.

Despite his age, the fleet-footed winger has also shown he can hold his own in the Premeira Liga, producing seven goals and seven assists while on loan at Estoril last season.

In conclusion, losing Podence for a third of what they paid isn’t good business however, that blow is softened by the £12.7m signing of Rodrigo, who has incredible amounts of potential.
