Video shows seal catching fish in Ramsgate Marina

Footage shows the “amazing” moment a seal caught a fish in Ramsgate marina this morning.

It can be seen in the water before grabbing what is believed to be a mullet.

The seal then twirls around with its “big, juicy” catch before diving deeper to swim away.

Curt Anderton, who lives opposite the marina, told KentOnline it was a “crazy” sight and he was shocked when he first saw it.

“Normally when it’s quite sunny outside I can see the mullet on top of the water, then I noticed something on the water floating, and realised it was a seal,” he said.

“At a quick glance, it looked like a body, but then I saw its head pop out with a big, juicy fish.

“My phone had died so I ran to get a charger, and the seal had gone.

“I managed to charge my phone and it reappeared with a mullet in its mouth, casually popping its head out of the water.”

He then shared the impressive video on social media, prompting positive responses from fellow Ramsgate residents.

“Fab video,” one said.

Several others also said it was “amazing” footage.

It is not the first time Kent residents have been lucky enough to capture incredible sea creatures in their natural habitat.

Earlier this month, photographer Jason Arthur caught three “dolphins” swimming in the River Thames near Gravesend Town Pier on camera.

He told KentOnline there were around three in the river at about 2.30pm on June 9 and were thought to have been there for a few days.

It is not known if they were in fact dolphins or porpoises - both of which have previously been seen splashing around in the water near Gravesend and Northfleet.
