Findlay (Ohio) four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomerystarted following the Elite 11 Finals in 2017. Justin Fieldsand Trevor Lawrencewere two of the signal-callers who participated in the event that summer.
Montgomery is now set to follow in their footsteps as an Elite 11 Finals competitor. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound recruit is ready to take the field in California and be a part of a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
“The Elite 11 is competition against the country’s best and seeing how we stack up against each other,” Montgomery told On3. “Being able to be coached by some of the best with great knowledge is exciting and I want to make the most of it.
“I’ve been striving to be a part of it as one of my goals. For it to come to reality is pretty cool, so I’m pretty excited.”
Montgomery has been committed to Georgiasince April 17. He is looking forward to competing, while also getting to know them and learn from the instructors. He plans to “be the best version” of himself during the event and showcase his talents under center.
The No. 9 player in Ohio is hoping to be coached hard over the three-day showcase and improve the mental aspects of his game. Montgomery also wants to learn about the best ways to watch film and prepare off the field.
“I am excited to go out there and have the opportunity to compete,” said Montgomery, the No. 188 overall prospect and No. 13 quarterback in the 2025 On3 Industry Ranking. “It’s the best quarterback fraternity in the country. If you’re an Elite 11 finalist, you’re always going to be able to say that you were.
… I want to be coached hard. I want to learn as much as I can. While out there, I will take note and be a sponge to improve as much as I can.”
Montgomery wants top prospects to join him at Georgia
Montgomery is returning to Georgia at the end of July for a cookout event in Athens. The four-star is currently one of eight top-200 players pledged to the Bulldogs.
Georgia is still after some of the best uncommitted players in the country and Montgomery is working to successfully recruit them to the SEC program. They include Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School Five-Star Plus+ offensive tackle David Sanders Jr., Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake four-star wide receiver Travis Smith, Milton (Ga.) four-star wide receiver CJ Wiley, Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake four-star interior offensive lineman Juan Gastonand Cedar Rapids (Iowa) John F. Kennedy four-star offensive tackle Nick Brooks.
“I tell these guys that ultimately, the decision is up to them and that they have the opportunity to go anywhere in the country,” Montgomery said. “But I tell them that at Georgia, they’re going to get developed better than anywhere else and they’re going to win more than anywhere else. The proof’s in the pudding. If you look at the past few years, no one has been even close to the success and production that Georgia has had.”
Since his commitment, Montgomery has taken part in multiple Zoom calls with Georgia’s staff to learn more about the Bulldogs’ offense and be prepared for when he arrives on campus. He believes that he will be developed, win a lot of games and compete for championships in Athens.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else,” Montgomery said. “Georgia is the standard of college football. I’m super excited for the opportunity. I can’t wait to get to work down there.”
