Wolves are set to beat Chelsea to the signing of Brazilian wonderkid Pedro Lima, who recently earned the praise of Matheus Cunha.

Throughout June 2024, Wolves have been on a roll. After a sub-par finish to the 2023/24 campaign, everyone knew that reinforcements were needed for Gary O’Neil’s side, and Matt Hobbs has not let the Molineux faithful down.

Last week, Wolves confirmed the capture of Rodrigo Gomes from Braga, an exciting Portuguese talent who shone in the Liga Portugal last season.

Now, it is believed that Wolves will quickly follow this up with another wonderkid after beating Chelsea to the signing of the 17-year-old.

Currently residing at Brazilian side Sport Recife, Lima has widely impressed and established himself as the first-choice right-back despite his age.

As a result, many clubs were believed to be interested in the defender, most notably Chelsea who looked to be the favourites to sign him.

However, recent reports have revealed that Wolves are set to sign Lima. According to The Athletic, the 17-year-old will travel to England on July 1 to complete a medical and should sign a five-year contract with the option of another year.

A Sport Recife statement read: “Sport Club do Recife announces that it has signed a binding agreement to transfer the economic and federative rights of athlete Pedro Lima to Wolverhampton Wanderers, from England.

“The agreement is subject to customary conditions, including the athlete’s approval of medical examinations conducted by the English club.

“President Yuri Romao and the football management committee will detail the operation in a statement when all acts related to the business have been completed.”

Sky Sports later revealed that the proposed move is set to cost Wolves £8.45 million.

While the right-back might not immediately break into the starting XI, the potential Lima has is considerable.

The Brazilian is highly regarded throughout the footballing world and was recently praised by Wolves star Cunha who expressed his desire for the club to sign the upcoming talent.

Last week he stated: “Pedro Lima is a talent, he has a bright future. He is from Paraiba who comes to Recife and has a very similar story to me. I wish him the best

“I wanted him to be playing with me because I think Wolves were also interested. But well, he made his decision, Chelsea is a great club and I hope he plays and I hope to face him often.”

Cunha went on to share that he hopes to exchange shirts in the future with the 17-year-old in the Premier League.

“We can talk a little on the field, try to change the shirt, but of course, wishing him all the best, he is a boy who deserves it, who fought for it and thank God it started. May it be a bright future for him, I’ll be rooting for him.”
