Report: West Ham lead the race to sign £33.8m-rated 'Messi-esque' winger this summer

West Ham United are leading the race to sign a £33.8m-rated ‘Messi-esque’ winger this summer, according to a recent report.

Julen Lopetegui has already added Luis Guilherme to his ranks and appears to be readying another proposal.

The Spaniard has evidently identified the attack as an area that needs strengthening and is now in pole position to land another forward.

West Ham United lead race to sign Matias Soule

According to Tutto Sport, West Ham are leading the chase to sign Juventus winger Matias Soule, who enjoyed a phenomenal loan spell at Frosinone last term.

Soule netted 11 times whilst laying on three assists for the Serie A outfit, which has led many to question if Juve will even sanction his sale.

However, they are expected to sanction a sale if they receive an offer worth £33.8m for the Argentina youth international.

The Hammers value him at just over half that price tag, so as it stands, the two parties are a long way from completing a deal.

West Ham United face stiff competition

The Hammers face stiff competition for Soule’s signature this summer, with Leicester City, Southampton and Bayer Leverkusen all taking an interest in him.

The ‘Messi-esque’ winger is also attracting attention from Aston Villa, who would surely have the advantage in negotiations thanks to their Champions League qualification.

Perhaps the draw of living in the capital may be enough to convince him to join Lopetegui’s ranks as they seek to return to Europe.

A telling few weeks await the club.
