Brendan Rodgers faces battle to keep hold of key Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers

Cameron Carter-Vickers has emerged as one of Celtic’s most important players under Brendan Rodgers, but HITC understands that form has attracted the interest of a number of Premier League clubs.

Carter-Vickers has been with Celtic since 2021 when he joined from Tottenham Hotspur after initially impressing on loan.

Celtic paid just £6million for Carter-Vickers and he has since become a cornerstone at the club playing over 100 games.

His importance to the club was emphasised when he was handed a new five-and-a-half year deal in January, but despite the new contract that has not stopped him emerging as a target for a number of Premier League clubs.

Ipswich, Fulham and West Ham keen on Cameron Carter-Vickers

HITC understands that newly promoted Ipswich Town are amongst the clubs eager on Carter-Vickers, as they look to back boss Kieran McKenna in the transfer market.

Ipswich will have one of the smaller budgets in the Premier League, but HITC is told that they will be backing McKenna to make some key signings and one of those is set to be in central defence and HITC understands Carter-Vickers is under consideration.

But Ipswich are not alone as we understand there is interest from both Fulham and West Ham. Both clubs are in the market to bolster their central defensive options and 26-year-old Carter-Vickers is someone that is on their list of options.

Celtic hoping to keep US star Carter-Vickers

Carter-Vickers himself is currently in his homeland of America, where he is featuring in the Copa America. Despite being born in England, Carter-Vickers opted to represent the United States – where his father, a former NBA player, is from.

USA are playing in the Copa America as they build up towards hosting the World Cup in 2026 and Carter-Vickers is becoming an important part of the national team picture, as he already is with Celtic.

And HITC is told that Brendan Rodgers has told the club’s hierarchy that he wants to keep the defender, who he is a huge fan of.

When Carter-Vickers signed his new deal earlier this year, Rodgers was full of praise for him.

He told the club’s website: “He has been an absolute rock for us since he joined the club and has played to such a high standard so regularly, week in, week out.

“He has been such a pillar of strength in our defence and a real leader in the team — I know he is held in such high regard, too, by his team mates. His qualities as a player, his personality and his absolute commitment to the game make him a real joy to work with.”
