Eni Aluko blasts “casual” Jeremy Doku after Belgium lose 1-0 to Slovakia
Doku, in particular would be disappointed, having gifted Slovakia the ball inside Belgium’s box by playing a wayward pass.
The £55.5 million man was initially trying to dribble close to his side’s penalty area before playing a poor pass which was initially saved by Koen Casteels before Ivan Schranz put the ball in the back of the net.
Eni Aluko was critical of Manchester City winger Doku, who made a huge mistake that cost Belgium against Slovakia.
The pundit said on ITV (17/06/2024, 6:50 pm): “That’s not the position you want to see [Jeremy] Doku dribbling, it is too clever.”
“He is trying to be too casual and then he gets caught in two minds. Slovakia capitalise, it is a great flick and finish.”
“It gives Slovakia something to hang onto because Belgium have created a lot of chances.”
Bizarre decision from Jeremy Doku
It is hard to disagree with Eni Aluko about Doku, who made a rather bizarre decision to even try to take on his man in such a dangerous area of the pitch.
The 22-year-old could simply have passed Casteels the ball and averted his team from any danger.
The initial indecision from Doku might have panicked him, which led to him playing the wayward pass he proceeded to.
At the international level, teams will take advantage of such howlers at the back and that is exactly what Slovakia did on Monday.
Doku will be gutted as his mistake ended up gifting the opposition the opening goal and ultimately, Belgium lost the contest.
