'For me': Gary Cahill says Man City have a player who's even better than Jude Bellingham

Gary Cahill has claimed that one Manchester City stalwart is a better player than Jude Bellingham.

At just 20 years of age, Bellingham has cemented his presence as one of Europe’s best players, who could go down as a legend of the game.

Winning La Liga and the Champions League in his first season at Real Madrid, the in-form midfielder’s debut campaign will go down in the club’s folklore.

However, Bellingham is yet to solidify his place as the best player in the world, with Antonio Rudiger once claiming Kevin De Bruyne is superior to him.

Gary Cahill settles Phil Foden-Jude Bellingham debate

In comparison to a majority of midfielders in world football, the Englishman has an edge on them.

Both, due to his incredible stint in the Spanish capital so far and his memorable spell at Borussia Dortmund.

However, when ranking the best England players for LiveScore on TikTok, Gary Cahill claimed that Phil Foden is better than Bellingham.

“For me [Phil] Foden is top, he’s had an unbelievable season, off the back of that, [Jude] Bellingham second. I will go [Harry] Kane, [Bukayo] Saka and [Declan] Rice, but that’s harsh on Rice because he’s an unbelievable player, but he’s in that unflattering position.”

Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham had nigh-on identical seasons

While Gary Cahill believes Foden is a better player than Bellingham, the pair had nigh-on identical seasons.

Both players showcased that they are goalscoring midfielders.

The Manchester City technician and the Real Madrid attacker both scored 19 league goals.

In all competitions, Foden scored 27 while Bellingham scored 23.

Comparing both players’ assist numbers across all competitions, City’s number 47 had 12 while the former Birmingham City talisman registered 13.

Both Foden and Bellingham also shouldered the weight of their team’s expectations when key players like De Bruyne, Haaland, Stones, Vinicius Junior, Militao and Courtois were injured.

The England international won two major trophies while the Stockport-born midfielder lifted one.

As a result, whether one thinks Foden or Bellingham is the superior player comes down to preference and it seems like Gary Cahill is siding with the former over the latter.
