Meghan Markle won't go 'back on her word unless two things happen' - and it involves Harry

Meghan Markle won’t consider visiting Prince Harry’s homeland unless two conditions are met, it’s been claimed by a royal expert.

The Duchess of Sussex hasn’t visited the UK with Prince Harry since September 2022, when Queen Elizabeth II passed away. Meghan Markle and the Duke were in the country to attend the WellChild Awards, and it wasn’t necessarily a family visit, but happened to be in the country when the monarch died, luckily. They extended their trip to follow the royals‘ mourning period and to attend the funeral. However, the former TV star hasn’t stepped foot back on British soil in an official capacity since – although she did have a layover once when she was jet-setting somewhere else. Last month, the 42-year-old landed at Heathrow on the way to Nigeria from Los Angeles, but chose to not step outside the airport. Instead, she waited for Harry to join her, and the duo traveled on a night flight to the African country. Now, a royal expert says Meghan Markle won’t come back to the UK unless her two conditions are met.

It’s been claimed the Suits actress only wants to come back if the couple have their own permanent residence in the country, and if they have security to the level she deems appropriate.

The couple haven’t had their own pad in Britain since they officially vacated Frogmore Cottage last year, at King Charles’ request.

Although they stepped down as senior royals in 2020, they made their leave from The Firm permanent the following year, after the late Queen told them they can’t continue with a ‘half-in/half-out’ approach to representing the monarchy.

When they moved into their Montecito mansion that summer, Prince Harry’s cousin Eugenie and her family moved into their Frogmore Cottage for a spell. Although it has a humble name, it is by all means not quaint, instead a sprawling estate worth millions.

Tom Quinn, royal commentator, told The Mirror, that the Duke of Sussex is missing his old life and friends and they don’t ‘get on’ with his wife, and he’d like a place to settle roots back home.

He said: “He [Harry] misses his Old Etonian and army friends, many of whom have not visited as they don’t get on with Meghan.

“As time goes by, Harry misses some aspects of his old life in the UK. Inevitably, the honeymoon period where everything in the States is new and exciting is coming to an end, and Harry is looking back at the past through rose-tinted spectacles.”

‘It’ll take a while for Archie and Lilibet to develop a relationship with their cousins’

Aside from reports King Charles’ wishing to see his grandchildren more, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet haven’t been able to bond with their cousins, either.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle only brought little Lilibet once to his homeland, and while Archie was born in the UK, they left before he turned one year old, so he’s likely not going to remember much.

Therefore, their two children haven’t spent time with Prince William and Kate Middleton’s children – their only first cousins. Prince George, Louis and Princess Charlotte.

Quinn added: “Meghan has said she’s only prepared to return to England if she and Harry have a place of their own and the security they both feel is essential. Meghan will never return to the UK and stay with her husband‘s relatives.

“If the couple manage to find a permanent home and sort out the security issue they will certainly want to bring their children to the UK but it’s going to take a lot of diplomacy to get to the point where Archie and Lili are able to develop a genuine and warm relationship with their cousins George, Charlotte and Louis.”
