‘Horrendous run to start’… Some Wolves fans react as 2024/25 fixtures list is officially revealed

Wolves fans have been sinking their teeth into the 2024/25 fixtures list this morning – and there is a fairly mixed reaction.

Gary O’Neil is looking to build on last season, which saw the club finish 14th in the Premier League. That was a little disappointing in the end, given Wolves were pushing for European football at one point.

But many would have taken that right at the start of the season, given the chaos of the summer.

Wolves also reached the FA Cup quarter-final, but again there was disappointment going out at the hands of Coventry City and missing out on the chance to go to Wembley.

But there were many promising signs last term, and fans are optimistic about 2024/25.

Today, the fixtures for 2024/25 have been released – and fans have been giving their reactions on social media.

Wolves have a tricky start, with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium their first opponents on August 17. Last season’s Premier League runners-up will certainly be a very difficult game.

Chelsea at home follow, and then it’s Nottingham Forest away to close out August.

Things don’t get much easier, with Newcastle United at home, Aston Villa away and Liverpool at home in September.

November and December represent ‘easier’ months, with Wolves facing all three promoted clubs.

It’s a mixed bag to finish the season. In April and May, Wanderers play Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Manchester City. But do finish with Brighton, Crystal Palace and Brentford.

On social media, some fans are a little bit concerned.

@FPL_BlackWolf said ‘Rough start!’, with @FPL_JimmyG concurring, writing ‘Well that’s not an easy start to the season’.

@Wolvoryan04 was a little more upbeat, writing ‘I find the tough start ok tbh, get them out the way and then push on from then’.

@FarenheitDP9 echoed those sentiments, writing ‘Horrendous run to start with but got to play them sometime & rather get them out the way early.’

Some Wolves fans couldn’t help but notice the final fixture against Brentford, which will be played at Molineux.

In recent seasons, Wolves have been dealt tough away games on the final day. Last season, it was Liverpool away, in 2022/23 it was Arsenal away, and in 2021/22 it was Liverpool away again.

@Georgia_wwfc wrote ‘Wow home games to end the season and Boxing Day, never thought I’d see the day again’.

@Mortimer_ben added ‘Home final game. Hallelujah!’

Other points of interest include the game with West Ham United, who are now managed by Julen Lopetegui, of course. The first reunion with the Spaniard for Wolves will come on December 7, assuming the clubs don’t meet in the Carabao Cup first.

There is also a home game against Manchester United on Boxing Day, which has pleased some.

Mixed bag for Wolves

Wolves have undoubtedly got a tricky start to 2024/25.

Arsenal are obviously a brilliant team and pushed Manchester City to the final game of last season for the Premier League title.

Chelsea showed towards the end of last term that they are a team growing, and have the potential to be dangerous. There are then some tricky contests in September.

It will be important to try and get some points on the board during this period, but fans may well have to be patient.

But it’s a decent November and festive period, and the final few games are definitely ‘forgiving’, and hopefully by that point, Wolves will be looking up the table rather than over their shoulder.

While the start is a bit concerning, there are reasons to be optimistic.
