Report: Man City now divided behind the scenes over whether they should sell £11m player this summer

Certain figures at Manchester City are divided about whether the club should sell one of their players this summer.

Over previous summer transfer windows, the Citizens have seen numerous players from their squad get sold to other clubs.

Names such as Cole Palmer, Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte were cashed in on during the previous summer window after winning the Treble with the Blues.

With another player in Pep Guardiola’s ranks being mentioned with a move away from the Etihad Stadium this summer, some intriguing behind-the-scenes information has emerged on this particular situation.

Some Man City coaches reluctant to sell Sergio Gomez

According to a recent report from El Desmarque, there are some coaches at City who feel that Sergio Gomez, who has been linked with a move to Real Sociedad recently (via Mundo Deportivo), should not be sold this summer as they feel he could be a vital player for the Blues in the future.

The report also adds that these coaches are trying to convince Gomez of this, although the Spaniard doesn’t feel that he’d be getting many minutes in the team next season.

Gomez has barely made an impact at City

The 23-year-old has now spent two seasons at the Manchester club after City paid £11m to sign him from Anderlecht back in 2022.

However, the Spaniard has only started two of the 18 Premier League games he’s appeared in, highlighting how low down in the pecking order he’s been since joining City.

This makes it easy to see why Gomez, who City reportedly want €15m (£12m) to sell, apparently doesn’t feel that his situation is likely to change next season in terms of him playing more often.

However, given how the full-back has shown how versatile he is by featuring in numerous positions when he has been given the opportunity to play, this could be why some coaches at City feel that he could be a more important figure in the team in the future.

In our view, we feel that it could be an idea for the Manchester club to loan Gomez out if it would help him get some regular minutes under his belt and possibly develop his game.
