'Brilliant' ace & 12 G/A gem: 5 players out of contract in 2025 Sheffield Wednesday could sign cheap - opinion

Sheffield Wednesday could now turn to players that are entering the final 12 months of their contracts.

Sheffield Wednesday‘s transfer business is well underway after making their first two signings in Ben Hamer and Max Lowe.

The Owls have so far relied on free transfers, but look set to splash the cash as they near a deal for Angers defender Yan Valery.

Dejphon Chansiri is expected to provide Danny Rohl with transfer funds after he signed a new contract last month.

However, that won’t prevent them from looking for bargain deals for high quality players.

With the transfer market demanding extremely high prices in recent years, Wednesday could instead look to those who are out of contract in 2025.

Many clubs could look to offload those players this summer in order to avoid losing them for free in a year’s time.

Here are five players who the Owls could target for a bargain fee…

Five players out of contract in 2025

Daniel Iversen

Daniel Iversen has been at Leicester City since 2016, but hasn’t really been given a proper chance at the club.

The ‘brilliant’ goalkeeper made 12 appearances in the Premier League for the Foxes and was also hailed for his heroics when he saved three penalties in a Carabao Cup clash with Stockport County in 2022.

A majority of his career has been spent out on loan though, particularly impressing when he was named Preston’s Player of the Year for the 2021-22 campaign.

He spent the second half of last season with Stoke, where he managed to help them avoid relegation.

He has since admitted that he expects to leave Leicester this summer, with his contract expiring in 2025.

Matt Clarke

Matt Clarke looked set to leave Middlesbrough this summer after spending months on the sidelines at the start of the season.

However, the defender earned himself a regular place in the team from February onwards and was eventually nominated for their Player of the Year.

Boro will be looking to keep hold of the centre-back now, but if they bring in any defensive reinforcements then Clarke could become concerned about his place in the squad.

It would be a difficult deal to complete, but a very good one at that.

Koji Miyoshi

Koji Miyoshi joined Birmingham on a free transfer last summer and picked up six goals and six assists, though was unable to prevent their relegation.

Having only signed a two-year deal, the Blues could be forced to sell him this summer if he decides he doesn’t want to play in League One.

Josh Koroma

Josh Koroma has been with Huddersfield Town since 2019 and managed six goals and two assists as they were relegated from the Championship.

The attacker had the most shots in the squad last season (90), the fourth-most successful dribbles (29) and the third-most key passes (30).

While he wouldn’t be the player guaranteed to score the goals, if he is available on the cheap then he could be a solid squad player.

Ebou Adams

Ebou Adams enjoyed an ‘immense’ loan spell with Derby County last term, starting all 17 matches and helping them win promotion to the Championship.

Despite only joining in January, the midfielder won the fifth-most tackles in the squad (47) and blocked the third-most passes (29).

Adams has now returned to Cardiff and they could look to offload him if they have no plans for him themselves, though the Rams will also be eager to snap him up permanently.
