'He's been excellent': Joe Crann admits Sheffield Wednesday ace's achievement this week is 'no surprise'

A Sheffield Wednesday player has been heavily praised after his huge achievement this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday are set for a very busy summer after avoiding relegation last month.

A number of key players remain in talks over new contracts, with Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan became the first to put pen to paper.

Josh Windass is said to be nearing fresh terms, while Will Vaulks was the first to turn down a new deal and join Oxford United instead, while Cameron Dawson is also expected to leave.

That leaves Dominic Iorfa and Di’Shon Bernard yet to secure their future at Hillsborough, though the latter is likely to have other things at the front of his mind for the next month.

After making his national team debut a year ago, Bernard has now been named in Jamaica’s 26-man squad for the Copa America tournament this summer.

The defender has racked up 15 caps for Jamaica so far, but is yet to compete in a major international competition.

Joining Premier League stars such as Ethan Pinnock, Michail Antonio and Leon Bailey, Bernard will now jet off to the USA as the Reggae Boyz prepare for their opener against Mexico next weekend.

Di’Shon Bernard is well deserving of Jamaica call-up

It is a big achievement for the centre-back, and journalist Joe Crann has admitted it is ‘no surprise’ that he received the call-up this week.

Writing on X, Crann said: “Di’Shon Bernard has been named in Jamaica’s final squad for the upcoming Copa America tournament in the USA – it’s no surprise, he’s been excellent for club and country over the past year.”

Could he put himself in the shop window at the Copa America?

Sheffield Wednesday fans will be delighted for Bernard, who really stood out last season.

However, his contract situation makes him spending a month on the international stage particularly concerning.

It is unclear whether Bernard has already made his decision about his future, but there will be many clubs keeping an eye on him this summer and will be well aware he could be available on a free transfer.

Hopefully Danny Rohl has already had very positive conversations with the 23-year-old, but it could get a lot harder once he returns in July.
