How Wolves performed last season against their first five 24/25 Premier League opponents as fixtures analysed

The Premier League fixtures for the 2024/25 campaign have been released, as Wolves learn their fate ahead of Gary O’Neil’s second season.

Gary O’Neil led his Wolves side to a 14th-place finish in the 2023/24 season in the Premier League, a position that could have both been better and worse.

When the Englishman took charge just days before the start of the campaign, many were hoping that the Old Gold would survive in the top flight after a concerning summer.

Instead, O’Neil carried Wolves to achieve a five-point improvement on the 2022/23 calendar, with further progression now desired.

Now that the fixture list has been released for 2024/25, let’s see how Wolves fared in their first five games next term over last season.

How Wolves performed last season against opening five opponents of 2024/25

Wolves had a difficult start to last term, which was expected as O’Neil arrived so soon before the Premier League kicked off.

The Old Gold collected one win from their opening six in 2023/24, with there now hope that such fate won’t be carried into August.

While it won’t be an easy start once more, Wolves should take some inspiration from their results from their opening five fixtures of 2024/25 over last season.

O’Neil’s side collected five points from a possible 15 over the 2023/24 calendar in the fixtures that will see their 2024/25 campaign commence.

Wolves lost 2-1 to Arsenal at the Emirates, where they will start next season however, did secure a home win against Chelsea and two points from draws against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, and Newcastle at Molineux.

The Old Gold will be hopeful of improving on their 2-0 defeat at Villa Park last term in their third away day of 2024/25.

Wolves have a difficult start to 2024/25

Fans have had their say on Wolves’ fixture list, in what is poised to be another challenge from the off for O’Neil’s side.

Of course, difficult starts aren’t desired however, there will be a belief that O’Neil’s squad will be far better equipped than they were in August 2023.

Still, if Wolves were to achieve five points from their first five games as they did in such fixtures in 2023/24, it would represent an improvement from the start of last campaign.

For now, the focus will be on the summer transfer window, where O’Neil will aim to get his squad in order in preparation for the upcoming season.
