Tennessee Football has three of the 20 biggest games on schedule this season, according to ESPN’s new Football Power Index rankings. Tennessee’s game against is the 11th biggest game, Tennessee-Georgia is 12th and Tennessee at Oklahoma is 17th.
The list of the biggest games on the 2024 schedule, topped by Georgia at Texas in Week 8, comes from combined FPI ratings. Alabama at Tennessee in Week 8 has a combined rating of 91.4. Tennessee at Georgia is a 90.6 and Tennessee at Oklahoma in Week 4 is an 87.3.
The Vols are ranked No. 9 in ESPN’s first FPI ranking for the 2024 season. The metric predicts Tennessee to go 9-3 with a 36.9% chance to make the 12-team College Football Playoff.
The FPI gives Tennessee an 0.9% chance to go undefeated, a 95.4% chance to win six or more games, a 6.0% chance to play for the national championship and a 2.7% chance to win a national title.
Georgia is Tennessee’s highest-ranked opponent at No. 1, ahead of No. 5 Alabama, No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 20 Florida, No. 28 North Carolina State, No. 34 Kentucky, No. 444 Arkansas, No. 49 Mississippi State, No. 76 Vanderbilt, No. 111 UTEP and No. 134 Kent State.
Tennessee Football’s 2024 Schedule
Tennessee opens the season on August 31 against Chattanooga and goes to Charlotte in Week 2 for a neutral-site game against N.C. State on September 7 at Bank of America Stadium in the Duke’s Mayo Classic. The Vols return home to host Kent State on September 14.
After starting conference play with road games at Oklahoma on September 21 and at Arkansas on October 5, Tennessee hosts Florida, Alabama (October 19), Kentucky (November 2) and Mississippi State (November 9), with the second bye week of the season set for October 26, in the middle of the four-game run at home.
The first bye week of the season is on September 28, splitting up the Oklahoma and Arkansas trips.
Tennessee goes to Georgia on November 16, hosts UTEP on November 23 and closes the regular-season schedule at Vanderbilt on November 30.
Kickoff times, kickoff windows for Tennessee this season
Kickoff times and TV information for four Tennessee games this season have been announced, while kickoff windows are set for the other eight.
The season-opener against Chattanooga will be a 12:45 p.m. Eastern Time start, the N.C. State game Charlotte is set for 7:30 p.m. ET, the Kent State game will kick at 7:45 p.m. ET and the UTEP game will be a 1 p.m. ET start.
The Chattanooga and Kent State games will be televised by SEC Network, the N.C. State game will be on ABC and UTEP will be an ESPN+/SEC Network+ streaming game.
The SEC and ESPN last week announced kickoff windows — early, afternoon, night or flex — across the league.
Early games will start between Noon and 1 p.m. Afternoon games are between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. and night games will be between 6 and 8 p.m. Flex games could fall between 3:30-4:30 or 6-8.
Tennessee’s flex games include Oklahoma, Arkansas, Florida and Alabama. Night games will be Kentucky and Mississippi State and the Vanderbilt game will be in the early window.
