Aston Villa fans told ‘strong possibility’ another star exits with Douglas Luiz and Jhon Duran

Aston Villa could now lose another first-team player as well as Douglas Luiz and Jhon Duran this summer.

Aston Villa’s focus will firmly be on the June 30th deadline to amend their PSR concerns to avoid breaching the Premier League’s financial boundaries.

The Villans are actively looking to offload some of their most profitable assets, with Douglas Luiz and Jhon Duran linked with moves away.

While the futures of the two players are the focal point of the transfer window so far, it has now been suggested that another key player will leave the club this summer.

Lucas Digne or Alex Moreno expected to leave Aston Villa this summer

Luiz’s move to Juventus as part of a swap deal involving Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior is progressing, as is talk of Duran’s links to Chelsea.

Now, The Athletic have suggested that Villa could also bid farewell to one of Lucas Digne or Alex Moreno to aid PSR concerns.

The report details that it is a ‘strong possibility’ that one of the left-backs will leave this summer as Villa are ‘scouting the market’ for a new left-back.

The reason for the expected departure of either the Frenchman or the Spaniard ultimately comes down to finances and durability.

While Digne’s future is in question due to him being one of Aston Villa’s top earners, picking up £120k-a-week, Moreno’s future hangs on his lack of fitness during his time at the club.

It will be interesting to see who the Villans opt to offload given that both players have contracts at Villa Park that run until 2026.

Villa face a dilemma with possible Digne and Moreno sales

Taking Villa’s PSR concerns into consideration, Digne would be the most logical figure to part ways with due to his high wage demands.

That being said, as a result of Moreno’s lack of fitness, the Frenchman became an integral part of Emery’s XI over the Champions League-earning 2023/24 season.

Both players are similar in their approach to play, age and position, making the decision a particularly hard one for Emery and Monchi to discuss.

While it’s a challenging predicament, Villa are fortunate in the sense that both players have acquired interest over the past year, according to speculation.

Last summer, Digne was linked with a move to lucrative Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, while more recently, Moreno is rumoured to be eyeing a homecoming at Real Betis, as per Estadio Deportivo.

Only time will tell who Emery and Monchi decide to axe, with the situation at left-back certainly a development to study this summer.
