Report: MLS officials in talks to sign Inter Miami-linked Sergio Ramos, hours after Sevilla release

Officials from an MLS franchise are already in talks to sign Inter Miami-linked Sergio Ramos just hours after the defender was released from Sevilla.

News broke this Sunday that the legendary Spanish center-back will be departing the La Liga club this summer, with Ramos‘ contract expiring and Sevilla and the defender agreeing that an exit would be ideal for both parties.

With Inter Miami reportedly interested in signing Ramos, the Herons have emerged as early favorites to sign the 38-year-old defender, with a move to MLS seemingly on the cards for the former PSG and Real Madrid superstar.

And one team is now in talks with Ramos over a potential move.

San Diego FC back in talks to sign Inter Miami target Ramos

According to Sports Zone, incoming MLS franchise San Diego FC are in talks to sign Ramos, having already previously held discussions with the Inter Miami-linked defender earlier in the year.

The California side, who will begin play in MLS next year as the league’s 30th team, have already made quite the splash this summer with the signing of Mexico international Hirving Lozano, with more big names expected.

And San Diego have now turned their attention to Ramos, with the former Spain international a player who will be courted by essentially every top MLS side with a Designated Player spot free in their squad.

As a result, Inter Miami could find themselves in a losing battle to sign Ramos, even with the Herons in desperate need of signing a new defender, with Nicolas Freire out for the remainder of the season.

Herons might need a miracle to sign Ramos this summer

Ramos is one of the biggest names in soccer and a player who fits the new superstar culture at Inter Miami to a tee, with the Spanish defender still one of the best in the world in his position.

Yet given the structure of Inter Miami’s squad, the Florida franchise might need a miracle this summer if they’re to beat the likes of San Diego to Ramos this summer, who could be swayed with a DP contract.

Indeed, Inter Miami might have star power in Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, but money talks in soccer, and San Diego have the power to land Ramos if they play their cards right in the coming weeks.
