Fabrizio Romano says club are set to bid £12.6m for 'wonderkid' Arsenal reportedly want to sign - journalist

Fabrizio Romano has said a European club are set to bid £12.6m for a ‘wonderkid’ who Arsenal want to sign.

Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu will be hard at work identifying and drawing up a list of targets during the off-season.

With the transfer window now open, deals are expected to come thick and fast across the Premier League and Arsenal can’t afford to be left behind.

That said, it seems one club has moved ahead of them in the race to sign a highly-rated ‘wonderkid’.

Porto set to bid for Arsenal target Mikayil Faye

Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye has been linked to Arsenal in recent weeks and reports suggest contact has been made between the two parties.

However, it now seems Porto have positioned themselves ahead of The Gunners to sign the 19-year-old centre-back.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese giants are preparing a bid of around £12.6m and will meet with Barcelona to discuss the deal.

Barcelona want a buyback clause on Faye, which could deter Arsenal’s interest, anyhow.

Arsenal should look at other targets

The Gunners should move on from Faye and focus on other targets as it seems Barca are adamant that he won’t be sold without a buy-back clause.

Arteta won’t really want to sign a player who’s essentially joining on a loan deal should it go well, so perhaps Riccardo Calafiori should be considered as an alternative.

The Bologna centre-back has impressed many at the Euros so far with Italy and could be available for £29m.

Tottenham and Juventus are currently chasing his signature.
