'If a move happens': £8m man opens door to summer exit after links with Leeds United

Leeds United are being linked with a move to sign a Championship rival’s right-back this summer among other clubs, and he opened the door to a possible exit over the weekend.

The need for a right-back has been ever-present since Daniel Farke joined the club. Luke Ayling and Connor Roberts have now officially left the club, while Jamie Shackleton could join them this summer.

Archie Gray was our best right-sided defender last summer but the chances are that the England U21 star will be moved into midfield this summer ahead of the 2024-25 season, leaving Leeds light at right-back.

So, a right-back is required with Roberts returning to Burnley, and Leeds are battling Napoli, Leicester, Aston Villa and Bournemouth in the race to sign an impressive right-back from a Championship rival.

New Leeds target opens door to possible exit this summer

Sunderland’s Trai Hume is the latest on the Leeds radar this summer, but with other clubs also looking at a deal for the Northern Ireland star who has been described as “brilliant” by teammate Dan Ballard.

Leeds are not alone in the race for the 22-year-old, with Premier League interest and the glitz of Napoli likely to tempt Hume. Sunderland want £8m, and he opened the door to an exit on Sunday Life Sport.

“I think I could play in the Premier League. That’s the level I want to get to but I’m happy enough at Sunderland and happy where I’m at and I’m really enjoying my football. If a move happens, it happens.

“If doesn’t I’m happy to play for Sunderland. I try not to think about it. I let my agent deal with all that stuff and until they come to Sunderland and offer money I don’t pay too much attention to it,” he said.

Hume could be the next Stuart Dallas at Elland Road

Naturally a right-back, Hume embodies so many traits that the recently-retired Dallas was renowned for at both club and country. His work rate and huge stamina are certainly two characteristics Dallas shared.

Of course, that both play for Northern Ireland but also their versatility. The nation are known for creating versatile players and Dallas was a prime example, while Hume is one of the next off the conveyor belt.

Hume has played in all defensive positions over the last 12 months, can be used as a wing-back and even play in midfield. He might be slightly expensive at £8m but he could be a long-term player for Leeds.
