The mined area in Ukraine may amount to 176,000 square kilometers, making it the most mined country on the world, the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ministry said.

Important civilian objects in Kharkiv Oblast, like schools, houses, cemeteries, fields, and plantations, where the front line passed, still remain dangerous, even after the territory was deoccupied.

"Tons of deadly scrap affect people living here, and using this land and buildings, although it seems that the front has moved far away," the message said.

"Somewhere around the cemetery, there are mine barriers left by the Russian invaders during their retreat. Somewhere mines are lying in front of positions that were dug right in the yard of a private house."

Local communities often ask the military to destroy mines and shells.

"Sappers remove unexploded shells and mines on the way of military vehicles as well," the brigade added.

"They are potentially explosive and are also subject to disposal."

About 25% of Ukraine's territory is contaminated with mines and explosive objects as of now, Ukrainian Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko said on April 5.
