Collingham Cricket Club 1sts lose to Anston in Nottinghamshire Premier League Division Two

The unbeaten start to the season for Collingham 1sts came to a soggy end in a rain-affected match at Anston.

It was one of only a few games to start on a rainy weekend.

The side, who remain top of Nottinghamshire Premier League Division Two, despite the defeat, lost by five wickets to their rivals.

Anston won the toss and elected to put Collingham into bat.

Opener Jack Copley was bowled for only seven runs to bring in Umer Waheed, who struck a fine 60 off 83 balls, including four fours and a six.

But that was as good as it got for the league leaders as the only other players to reach double-figures were Joe Saxelby (10) and Adam Mendham (16) as Collingham reached 133 for nine as rain ended their innings early after 42 overs.

After the weather interruption, Anston were set a revised target of 139 from 42 overs.

They were on 133 with seven-and-a-half overs still to play when the match was abandoned.

The hosts were comfortably ahead of their par score and earned a five-wicket win on the DLS method.

Copley was the pick of the Collingham fielders, taking two catches, while bowler John Miller took 2-24.

This weekend, Collingham 1sts are at home to Thoresby Colliery (11.30am start) and bottom club Balderton 1sts, in the same division, are also at home to Thoresby, who are just above them (also 11.30am).
