Liverpool told they’re trying to sign a player who has ‘phenomenal pace’

Liverpool are still yet to make any concrete moves in the summer transfer window.

The Reds are in need of one or two additions ahead of the new season. However, nothing has yet materialised on that front.

Part of the reason for that is likely because Arne Slot is still away on holiday. As the new head coach starts work at the AXA Training Centre, we’ll hopefully begin to see some movement.

A second reason for a slow June in the market is that Euro 2024 is currently ongoing. There are so many players Liverpool could target taking part in the competition.

And after one star made his major tournament debut on Sunday, Liverpool have been given further reason to bring him to Anfield.

Alan Pardew hails ‘phenomenal’ Marc Guehi

Above all else, Liverpool are likely to be keeping a close watch over how centre-backs fare at Euro 2024.

The Reds are reportedly targeting a new defender as their main priority this summer. There are a few who should have caught their eye in Germany so far.

One of them is England’s Marc Guehi. Injuries have given the Crystal Palace defender a way into the team and he took it with an impressive display on Sunday against Serbia.

Following his performance, fresh reports have claimed that Liverpool are interested in signing Guehi from Palace ahead of next season.

And according to the Eagles former manager, Alan Pardew, the Reds would be signing a ‘tremendous’ player with ‘phenomenal pace.’

“He’s been terrific for Palace,” Pardew raved to TalkSPORT. “He has a tremendous ability to read the pass. He puts the danger out before it even gets near the goal, that’s what his strength is.

“Sometimes it catches him out, he can get turned and caught out, he might have to watch that. But he’s got such phenomenal pace that he can recover.

“Now he’s had that great performance he’s probably there for the rest of the tournament which is good news I think.”

How much would Marc Guehi cost Liverpool?

Guehi’s stock has definitely risen after his composed outing for England at the weekend.

Although he’s been a very solid performer for Palace across three seasons now, it really now feels as though the 23-year-old is ready to take the next step.

With Liverpool in need of a new centre-back, it feels like Guehi could be a good fit.

Given all the qualities Pardew lists, though, the former Chelsea academy prospect will obviously not come cheap.

The Daily Mail have claimed that Guehi could in fact cost as much as £65m for Liverpool to sign this summer. That could well put the Reds off.

If he can keep impressing over in Germany though, that price may come to be seen as a snip.
