Cambridge United midfielder James Brophy signs new two-year contract at the Cledara Abbey Stadium

James Brophy has signed a new two-year contract with Cambridge United.

Having joined the U’s in the summer of 2021, the versatile midfielder passed the 150-appearance mark for the club last season.

And he will now be looking to add to his tally after committing his future to United until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

“I am thrilled to be staying with the club and continuing my time here at Cambridge United,” said the 29-year-old.

“We have some really great moments together and it has been a great fit. The gaffer has laid out where he wants this team to be, and I am excited to be a part of that.”

Head coach Garry Monk added: “James has been a big part of the team over the past three seasons, and I'm really happy that he has decided to continue with the club as we seek to grow further.

"He brings a level of experience, quality and enthusiasm that this team really benefits from. His loyalty to the club has been clear to see and I'm looking forward to continue working with him in 2024/25.”

Brophy, who has scored one goal for United, is the fourth member of last season’s squad to put pen to paper on fresh terms this summer after Glenn McConnell, Elias Kachunga and Mamadou Jobe.
