'I thought': Steve Bruce delivers verdict on what he's just seen from Chelsea's Conor Gallagher at the Euros

Steve Bruce has delivered his verdict on what he saw on Sunday from Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher in an England shirt at Euro 2024.

England recorded a 1-0 win on Sunday night against Serbia in their opening group stage match of the Euros tournament. Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham put down an early marker with his headed goal to clinch three points.

Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, 24, came on during the second half as a substitute to help see out the result.

The energetic midfielder added some extra running power and aggression for the final 20 minutes.

Steve Bruce verdict on Chelsea man

Steve Bruce singled out Chelsea’s Gallagher for praise after his cameo performance for England at the weekend.

Bruce told talkSPORT: “Whatever substitutions you make, you hope it’s a positive for the team. I thought Conor Gallagher came on and gave us an energy in the last half an hour which we’d been lacking in the previous 20 minutes before he came on. I thought the kid did well.”

Conor Gallagher has a role in this England squad

The Chelsea Chronicle is convinced Gallagher will get plenty more minutes as the summer tournament progresses.

He adds an extra bite in the midfield, which is clearly something Gareth Southgate wants in certain moments of matches.

FotMob data recorded that Gallagher won four duels, was fouled three times and completed 12/12 passes.

We won’t be surprised if the Chelsea star is used in a similar way in upcoming games. In fact, he should have a good chance of coming into the starting XI the later England go into the tournament.
