The expert stated that while the conference will not happen in the near future, there will be attempts to hold it in the fall. Switzerland, a co-organizer of the summit, supports this, as do several countries that participated. Brazil and China are also promoting this idea.

Fesenko mentioned that there are many rumors about Saudi Arabia potentially becoming the next venue for a peace conference involving Ukraine and Russia. Turkey, which has experience as a platform for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia—not only in 2022 but also for a grain deal and a prisoner exchange—might also host the conference.

These countries participated in the peace summit and can continue to act as mediators. On the other hand, China has reduced its chances of being a mediator by ignoring the peace summit.

The expert added that preference should now be given to the peace process format launched in Switzerland, which needs to be advanced and promoted.

Regarding Saudi Arabia, Fesenko said that, based on some publications, some European politicians support the idea of making it a mediator in peace talks. He believes the decision will depend on the format of the meeting, its agenda, and ensuring there are no preliminary demands from Russia.

“But sooner or later, such negotiations must begin. I just don’t see any other way out,” concluded the political scientist.
