The transfer sell-on clause negotiated in Wolves deal to sign Brazil wonderkid Pedro Lima - journalist

Wolves are negotiating a sell-on clause with Sport Recife over the transfer of Brazilian starlet Pedro Lima.

Gary O’Neil was clear that he wanted reinforcements to arrive at Molineux this summer, which is what the manager has received early into the transfer window.

Already, Rodrigo Gomes has joined Tommy Doyle as Wolves’ first two captures of 2024/25, with Pedro Lima poised to become the third signing.

On Monday, it was reported that the Midlands club had hijacked Chelsea’s deal for the 17-year-old, which will see him arrive in the Premier League once the transfer is official.

The sell-on clause that helped Wolves hijack Chelsea move for Pedro Lima

The news of Wolves’ capture of Lima came as a huge surprise as Chelsea looked to have got the deal all but done.

Instead, the Old Gold swooped in at the last moment, starting negotiations with the player over a move to the Premier League.

Matheus Cunha played a part in Lima’s decision to join Wolves, with the player’s desire to play in England immediately another decisive factor.

Brazilian journalist Carlyle has also identified another reason that Lima will join O’Neil’s side, with the sell-on clause being an area that pleased Sport Recife.

Carlyle said that Wolves had ‘presented a larger proposal’ than Chelsea’s 10%, adding that a future sell-on fee between ‘15% and 20%’ could be a possibility.

It’s believed that the Old Gold will pay £8.45m to capture Lima’s signature, with the player set to sign on July 1st when he turns 18.

Lima signing is a superb deal for Wolves

Given the hype surrounding Lima, who made a breakthrough in Serie B with Sport Recife last season, a sell-on clause was going to be inevitable to ensure the Brazilian side would part ways with the teenager.

The right-back is rated highly by Cunha and seemingly many at Wolves, as he prepares to arrive at Molineux this summer.

The Wolves striker had even prepared to see Lima join Chelsea, telling Brazilian news that he ‘wanted him’ to join Wolves so the duo could play together.

It will be interesting to see how O’Neil integrates the teenager into his side, in a transfer that reinforces the Old Gold’s desire to progress.
