'For whatever reason': Inter Miami player slammed after what happened in 2-1 win vs Philadelphia Union

An Inter Miami player has been criticized after what happened in Saturday’s 2-1 win against the Philadelphia Union.

The Herons somehow managed to secure all three points on the weekend as Inter Miami came from 1-0 down with nine players on the pitch to secure an impressive road win against the Union.

With no Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez in the squad due to the Copa America, the victory was made even more incredible for Inter Miami, with Julian Gressel and Leo Afonso coming up clutch with two big goals in the second-half.

Yet one Inter Miami player has been slammed for what he did against Philadelphia.

Tomas Aviles criticized for sending off in Inter Miami win vs Philadelphia Union

Speaking on Instant Replay, pundit Andrew Wiebe was critical of Tomas Aviles and the defender’s second yellow card offence against the Philadelphia Union, with the Inter Miami defender booked for kicking the ball away.

Given how limited the Herons are in central defense, supporters can be forgiven for being mad at Aviles, who could have avoided a red card and suspension had he kept his cool for a microsecond and tried to focus on winning the match.

Wiebe said: “PSA for every single player in MLS, you know if you kick the ball away and waste time, you are going to see a yellow card. Tomas Aviles is on a yellow card, and for whatever reason in the 84th minute against Philly, decides right in front of the referee to kick the ball away.

“Tomas, you can’t be surprised this is a second yellow card! Coaches, tell your players! Players, remember, if you’re on a yellow card, you have to break the habit of kicking the ball away, otherwise, you’re going to see your marching orders, it’s just the way it is.”

Aviles should have known better in moment of pure stupidity

Aviles might be one of the youngest members of Inter Miami’s senior squad, yet the Argentine youth international should have known better in that moment of pure stupidity against Philadelphia.

With games coming thick and fast for Inter Miami, missing a key player like Aviles could have a big impact in the race for the Supporters’ Shield, with the Herons still leading.

And for Aviles, the defender will need to look at himself and take the lessons as they come, with Tata Martino hopefully giving the teenager an earful after his sending off.
