Firefighters battle blaze at Milton landfill site in Cambridgeshire

Around 20 firefighters are tackling a blaze involving household waste at a landfill site this evening (Tuesday, 18 June).

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 4.30pm to the fire at the landfill site on Butt Lane in Milton.

A spokesperson for the service says crews are working hard to tackle the blaze and prevent it from spreading.

Crews from Cambridge, Cottenham, Ely and Huntingdon, along with the service’s south roaming fire engine and a water carrier from Newmarket in Suffolk, are at the scene.

The spokesperson added: “Smoke is travelling across nearby roads, including the A14, so please take care if out on the roads.”
