Kobbie Mainoo breaks silence on Ineos decision, and names Man Utd teammate he is trying to learn from

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has spoken for the first time since Ineos made the decision to stick with manager Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo was immediately declared one of our winners of the club deciding to stick with manager Erik ten Hag.

Following a two-week review, investors Ineos decided Erik ten Hag was the right manager for Manchester United.

It was the decision Manchester United fans wanted after his recent FA Cup success. And one of the goalscorers in the final, Kobbie Mainoo, has made clear it was what he wanted too.

Kobbie Mainoo reacts to Erik ten Hag decision

Speaking while on international duty with England at Euro 2024, after making his tournament debut against Serbia, Kobbie Mainoo has addressed the update on Erik ten Hag.

Mainoo made his Manchester United debut under Ten Hag in 2023 when just 17, before establishing himself as a regular and earning a call-up to England too.

He told club media: “I’m happy to be building with him. He’s got two trophies and, hopefully, there are more to come.

“It’s peace of mind knowing what manager we will have when we return. I’m so grateful to him – he put so much trust in me to play in the team. I can’t thank him enough.”

One of the key reasons to keep Ten Hag was to give the club much needed stability, and this is crucial for the development of young players.

Nobody likes uncertainty, and hearing Mainoo has ‘peace of mind’ underlines why it was so important for Ineos to make a decision, and make the right one.

Mainoo looking ahead to Denmark clash

Kobbie Mainoo’s England take on Denmark at Euro 2024, a match which pits him up against Manchester United clubmates Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen.

The bond between the younger players, including Mainoo and Hojlund, has been visible on the pitch, but it is interesting to hear him speak of his admiration for veteran Eriksen.

Mainoo said: “They’re both great team-mates to me. Rasmus is young, like me, so I am always around him. I am trying to learn and pick up from Christian.”

The progression shown by Mainoo last season played a part in limited Eriksen’s game time at Old Trafford last season, but he showed for Denmark this past weekend that he has plenty to offer.

Eriksen became the first midfielder at the European Championships since 2012 to be involved in 12 shots at goal in a single game for his team.
