'Permanent basis': £110k-a-week Arsenal player wants to leave for good and Gunners are happy to sell - journalist

Arsenal are expected to be busy in the transfer window over the coming weeks, both in terms of incomings and outgoings.

The Gunners will be eager to strengthen their ranks in pursuit of the Premier League title, as well as the Champions League and the domestic cups.

Arsenal also have a number of players who appear to be surplus to Mikel Arteta’s requirements and look likely to leave the Emirates Stadium.

Now, Charles Watts has spoken to CaughtOffside about a £110,000-a-week player who Arsenal want to sell but may struggle to do so due to his injury record.

Arsenal may struggle to sell Kieran Tierney this summer

The player in question is Kieran Tierney, once an indispensable star for Arsenal but now way down the pecking order.

Tierney ended up spending most of last season on loan at Spanish side Real Sociedad and could well be on the move away this summer.

Watts played down speculation claiming the Scotland international is Newcastle-bound, saying he hasn’t heard anything on the matter.

The Arsenal-leaning journalist also stressed that the Gunners wanted to sell him last year, but his injury record meant they had to settle for a loan deal instead.

This is something that could happen again this summer due to Tierney’s continued fitness struggled, added Watts.

“The hope was that he would go to Spain, do really well and create a real market for himself this summer,” he said.

“But once again injuries massively disrupted his season in La Liga and any clubs that are looking at him will have to take those injuries – as well as all his previous ones – into account.

“His injury record will certainly make it difficult for Arsenal to get the sort of money they would like for him, especially given the healthy size of his wage packet.

“So it is probably going to be tough again for Arsenal when it comes to finding a buyer for Tierney this summer.

“That’s why I wouldn’t rule out another loan at this stage, even though both club’s and Tierney’s preference is to now part ways on a permanent basis.”

Fellow Premier League club Fulham and Tierney’s former club Celtic have also been linked with a summer move for the defender.

Arsenal appear to have moved on from Kieran Tierney

Tierney certainly helped Arsenal move up a level when he joined from Celtic in 2019. For a long time, he was one of the first names on the team sheet.

However, the 27-year-old has suffered a lot with injuries and, as a result, has fallen down the Gunners pecking order.

Tierney sadly continued to have fitness issues at Real Sociedad, going on to make 26 appearances in all competitions.

The £110,000-a-week ace, as per Salarysport, has been great for Arsenal on many occasions, but it looks as though the club has moved on from him.

It would be good to see another club take a chance on Tierney by signing him permanently, but it remains to be seen what happens.
