'Class': Anthony Gordon reacts to news coming out of Newcastle United yesterday

Anthony Gordon is away on England duty, but is still keeping an eye on what is going on at Newcastle United.

The 23-year-old will have a new teammate when he gets back to Tyneside, with Newcastle United recently announcing that Lloyd Kelly is joining the club on a free transfer. There is also hope that James Trafford will arrive, and he is a player who Anthony Gordon knows well.

There has also been the kit launch which Gordon is excited about. He has expressed his delight at what Adidas have produced, while he is also looking forward to the release of the away kits.

With new players and new kits, Newcastle United are getting prepared for the new season. And now they have their new fixtures as well.

Kicking off the season at St James’ Park is perfect, and Anthony Gordon has told TalkSPORT that he is delighted to be playing at home on the opening day – even if he did forget about the fixtures being released!

“There was [chat in the England team about the fixtures]!” he said.

“I forgot it was happening and then I heard a few of the lads talking about it. We have got Southampton at home, which is really good. Starting the season in front of our fans will be class. I love playing there and I just can’t wait.

“It’s good when you see the fixtures because you sort of get excited. You are mainly looking at the start and the end, because you want to start the season well and finish the season well.”

Chance for Anthony Gordon to start 2024/25 well

Gordon is excited to start the season at St James’ Park, as are the Toon Army. It gives Eddie Howe’s side a great chance to start the campaign with a win, and Newcastle will go into that game as favourites against newly promoted Southampton.

The winger has admitted that he has mainly looked at Newcastle’s opening few games, and you would like to imagine that he likes what he sees. The fixture list has been kinder than usual to the Magpies, who now have a great opportunity to start the new campaign brightly.

Howe’s side only play two of the ‘big six’, and both of those games are at home, which is a big bonus. One of those games is against Tottenham Hotspur, which is a fixture that has gone well for Newcastle in recent years. On top of that, it could be the day that Sandro Tonali makes his first Premier League appearance since October 2023.

Newcastle star’s main focus is England and Euro 2024

Gordon is already looking forward to the new season kicking off, but his immediate focus is England.

There has been a lot of talk about him at Euro 2024, with the former Everton lad failing to make it off the bench against Serbia on Sunday. He will hope to feature on Wednesday evening versus Denmark, and Alan Shearer has even suggested that Gordon could start.

Hopefully that proves to be the case, as Newcastle fans are desperate to see Gordon show the nation exactly what he is capable of.
