'It will get resolved': Newcastle United player will be leaving St James' Park this summer - journalist

Newcastle United need to move on some of their deadwood this summer, but that will be easier said than done.

While there is a chance that the likes of Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron could leave, they are still first-team players who Eddie Howe can benefit from if they remain at St James’ Park.

But there are also players at Newcastle United who are no longer needed and must be moved on before the transfer window closes on August 30th.

And one of those is Ryan Fraser.

Ryan Fraser set for Southampton return

The Scottish winger is due back at Newcastle this summer, with his loan spell at Southampton coming to an end.

It was a very successful spell, with Fraser playing an important role in helping the Saints win promotion back to the Premier League. Now their manager Russell Martin, who recently called the 30-year-old ‘amazing‘, wants to sign him permanently, and it has been reported that Fraser has already agreed a deal to move to St Mary’s.

However, there is a problem.

Newcastle United’s Fraser problem

That is according to HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey, who has spoke to Geordie Boot Boys about Fraser’s future and why Newcastle may need to give him a payout before he departs.

“Southampton have an agreement with Ryan Fraser,” he said.

“Newcastle would let him go on a free, but Fraser wants his money. He has got a year left on his contract at St James’ Park worth £3million, and he does not want to walk away with nothing.

“Newcastle do not want to pay £3million, and were hoping that giving him away on a free transfer would smooth things over. I think they will come to an agreement, but they will have to pay him off to some extent.

“Fraser is in a strong position, and Newcastle United want to get rid. It will get resolved.”

Fraser and NUFC must find a compromise

When Fraser joined Newcastle United on a free transfer in 2020, he signed a five-year deal.

We are now going into the final year of that contract, and Fraser understandably wants to receive a payout to bring that deal to a premature end.

For Newcastle, they will need to find an agreement. The alternative is that Fraser remains on Tyneside and gets paid as normal for the next 12 months, meaning there is no financial benefit to not resolving this situation.

He wants to go to Southampton. Southampton want to sign him. Newcastle want rid. Everyone wants the same outcome, which means a compromise should be found.

However, it will not be as simple as just sending Fraser on his way to Southampton without having to pay a penny.
