Report: Tottenham now want to sign £26m Fenerbahce player who Jose Mourinho really wants to keep

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on signing one of Jose Mourinho’s key players at Fenerbahce this summer.

Ange Postecoglou is keen to bolster his options in midfield this summer ahead of his second season in charge at Tottenham.

Spurs continue to be linked with moves for the likes of Eberechi Eze and Conor Gallagher, but both players are likely to command a significant fee.

Crystal Palace reportedly want £68 million for Eze with Tottenham weighing up a move for the England star.

Chelsea also want around £50 million to offload Gallagher and recent reports have even claimed the Blues could offer their academy product a new deal.

But Spurs are seemingly exploring other options and according to GiveMeSport, one possible move could come at the expense of their former boss Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham a ‘club to watch’ for Sebastian Szymanski

Mourinho has recently landed the job at Fenerbahce and it hasn’t taken long for the Turkish giants to be linked with Tottenham players.

The Portuguese boss is reportedly keen to snap up Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, with the Dane set to leave Spurs this summer.

Yet, Mourinho could face a battle to keep hold of one of his key stars Sebastian Szymanski.

According to GMS, Spurs are a ‘club to watch’ for the Pole’s signature this summer, alongside Lazio and Marseille.

Mourinho is keen to keep the midfielder and he does have three years left on his current deal in Istanbul.

Szymanski’s 2023/24 stats

Szymanski enjoyed quite the season in Turkey last time out as he had a hand in 32 goals in 55 appearances. The 25-year-old provided 19 assists and is currently at Euro 2024 with Poland.

Previously valued at around £26 million, Szymanski would tick plenty of boxes for Spurs as a player who can operate in various midfield roles.

He would also provide stern competition for James Maddison, who struggled for form after returning from an ankle injury last season.
