Report: Sheffield United open talks to sign 'fantastic' Nottingham Forest player who wants to leave

Nottingham Forest will reshape their squad this summer with extra emphasis placed on players leaving the club.

The City Ground is normally a hive of activity during a transfer window and this summer is unlikely to break tradition.

The Reds are sailing close to the wind when it comes to PSR and that will mean balancing the books is necessary.

Forest need to make sure they are compliant to avoid another points deduction and hopefully, some departures can help the cause.

Now, it seems as though things are ramping up and one player could be about to depart Trentside for the final time.

‘Fantastic’ Nottingham Forest player now willing to leave

According to Team Talk, Joe Worrall is now in talks over a move to Sheffield United during the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old has fallen way down the pecking order at Forest and Worrall is now willing to consider moving on.

Nuno Espirito Santo chose to loan the captain out to Besiktas in January and he did get some game time in Istanbul.

However, he didn’t start all that much and as a result, they chose not to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.

Worrall is now the subject of interest from Sheffield United and they’re hoping to tie up a deal for the academy graduate.

It’s been suggested that a fee of £4 million will be enough to tempt Forest into doing business.

That would represent complete profit on the PSR spreadsheet as Worrall has come through the Forest academy.

Forest right to offload Worrall this summer

Since Forest won promotion, Worrall’s form has often been erratic and consistency has deserted him when it’s mattered the most.

However, the defender can play and a move back to the Championship should allow him to get going once again.

Worrall was instrumental as Forest won promotion during 2021/22 and it was clearly a proud moment for him to lift the trophy in the play-off final.

Steven Gerrard called Worrall ‘fantastic’ when he was on loan at Rangers and the Forest man needs to get his mojo back.

There were reports of Worrall falling out with Steve Cooper last season and that hampered his chances of game time.

Ultimately, the form of Murillo, Willy Boly and Andrew Omobamidele denied him the chance to cement a place in the Forest team.

Now, a move to Sheffield United looks like a good one for Worrall and Forest will be keen to move him on as quickly as possible.
