Report: What Chelsea want Enzo Maresca to do next year that only Thomas Tuchel has managed before

Chelsea have given new manager Enzo Maresca his targets.

Understandably, Chelsea want Enzo Maresca to guide the team back into the Champions League.

The Blues have missed out on qualification two seasons in a row now.

Getting them back into Europe’s elite competition will be the main objective for Maresca, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager earlier this month.

However, it looks like the Chelsea board have also given the Italian other targets.

Champions League qualification not the only thing on the agenda for Chelsea

According to The Athletic, the priority for Chelsea and Maresca is qualifying for the Champions League.

The same outlet has also claimed, though, that the Blues want the 44-year-old to take the new Club World Cup seriously and target the trophy in 2025.

Chelsea will be participants in it after winning the Champions League in 2021.

The Blues have won the tournament once, with Thomas Tuchel leading the club to glory back in the 2021-22 season.

Can Chelsea win the new Club World Cup?

It is not going to be easy, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City also set to compete in the tournament.

Real Madrid are the current Champions League holders and could be unstoppable next season.

They have the likes of Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior in their squad and have just added Kylian Mbappe to the mix.

It is not impossible for Chelsea to win; anything can happen in knockout football. However, they will certainly not be the favourites for the trophy.

It would be great if they could add it to their cabinet, but the most important thing for them next season is Champions League qualification. Winning the Club World Cup would just be the Cherry on top of the cake.

With so many quality teams in the Premier League, though, securing that will be no easy task either.

But Chelsea are making progress, finishing sixth last term after coming 12th in the 2022/23 campaign. Going up two more places is not an unrealistic thing to hope for.
