Report: Premier League giants now considering move for 'excellent' Sunderland player to replace £50m star

Manchester City have reportedly joined the race to sign one ‘excellent’ Sunderland player.

Sunderland could receive a number of high offers for their prized assets this summer.

Despite an underwhelming season, the Black Cats still had several players who really stood out and have since attracted interest from the Premier League.

All of Anthony Patterson, Dan Ballard, Trai Hume, Dan Neil, Pierre Ekwah, Jobe Bellingham, Jack Clarke, Chris Rigg are wanted in the top flight – almost their entire starting line-up.

Sunderland will be desperate to keep hold of most of their key stars, while the impending arrival of Simon Moore suggests they are intending on keeping hold of Patterson.

The 34-year-old is expected to be brought into help mentor Patterson, who has been linked with a number of top clubs.

Man City could replace Edersen with Anthony Patterson

With the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Sheffield United all interested in signing the goalkeeper, they may now face further competition from Man City.

According to GiveMeSport, the Premier League champions are considering a bid for Patterson.

While Stefan Ortega is reportedly eager to step up and become their number one, the report claims they are also looking at Patterson to fill the void.

It is unclear whether the ‘excellent’ 24-year-old would be brought to replace the Brazilian or to act as an understudy to Ortega.

While it will likely come down to how much Sunderland are offered for him, a move to Man City may be a lot more tempting than Liverpool or Arsenal.

Is the Sunderland goalkeeper ready for Premier League football?

Even if Patterson wasn’t brought to the Etihad Stadium to become first choice, climbing above Ortega in the pecking order certainly isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

The 31-year-old is unlikely to stay in between the sticks for too long either, and if Patterson impressed in training and in cup games then he could find himself as their No.1 in the near future.

Though most Sunderland fans will agree he is far from Man City quality for now, but it could be a move they would accept if they offered the big bucks.
