‘I've heard’: Max Wober now shares what he has been told by Leeds about his future this summer

Max Wober has revealed what he has been told by Leeds United about his future this summer.

Wober is currently representing Austria at the European Championships in Germany and so any developments over his future have been placed on the backburner for now.

The 26-year-old endured a nightmare start to his tournament on an individual level earlier this week, as his own goal cost Austria a 1-0 defeat against one of the tournament favourites in France.

Austria played extremely well during the match and so Wober will have undoubtedly been left feeling gutted at his involvement, something which Roy Keane heavily criticised.

That said, if Wober was to return, he certainly would not be coming up against players of the calibre of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, so Leeds fans shouldn’t read too much into his display.

Wober shares what Leeds have told him about his future

The future of all the returning loanees has been placed under the spotlight this month amid an agreement for Brenden Aaronson to return to the squad next season.

Aaronson actually rejected the opportunity to leave on loan for a second time, something which Wober, Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente do not have the option to do.

Wober enjoyed a solid campaign at Borussia Monchengladbach last term but the German side are currently unable to meet Leeds’ asking price, which is said to have actually been reduced.

Speaking before the tournament, Wober claimed he did not want to give his future any thought while he was focused on representing his country.

However, speaking in an interview with Bild, Wober had some interesting things to say regarding what Leeds have told him about his future.

He said: “There is currently total radio silence on both sides. I’ve heard from Leeds that there will be talks once the European Championships are over. They want me to concentrate on Austria for now.

“In Gladbach I said goodbye to everyone and thanked them for the cool year. So far, I haven’t heard anything else. My ideal scenario would be that I become European champion with Austria – and then take a nice two or three week vacation.”

What Graham Smyth has reported on Wober future

Right now it is clear that anything could happen regarding Wober, particularly after the shock return of Aaronson at the beginning of last week.

Wober’s exit last summer actually left arguably the sourest taste in the mouth of his teammates, having initially seemingly committed himself to a season in the Championship.

However, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth has insisted the club’s message regarding both Wober and Kristensen is that nothing can be ruled out.

It will be interesting to see the reaction Wober receives if he does choose to comeback, not only among the fans, but in the dressing room, too.
