‘After new contacts today’: Fabrizio Romano shares fresh update on Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz swap deal

Fabrizio Romano has shared a fresh update on Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz’s proposed move to Juventus.

Douglas Luiz’s switch to Turin has been thrown into doubt after complications regarding Weston McKennie heading the other way as part of the deal.

Juventus were reportedly on the verge of securing a cash-plus player deal for the Brazilian, with McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior heading to Aston Villa.

But it would appear that unless anything changes, McKennie won’t be heading to Villa Park.

Weston McKennie could be removed from Luiz swap deal

Reports earlier this week claimed that McKennie had failed to reach an agreement with Villa over his wages demands.

But Romano claimed the hold-up was down to a disagreement between Juve and the USMNT international, rather than Villa.

Now, the transfer insider has stated that after fresh talks today, McKennie is yet to reach an agreement with Juventus over his exit. This could lead to the 25-year-old being removed from the swap deal.

“After new contacts today, still NO agreement between Juve and McKennie on exit conditions.,” Romano wrote.

“He could be removed from swap deal for Douglas Luiz; Juve and Villa considering other options. AVFC will only proceed with swap deal if convinced on both technical/financial factors.”

Other Juventus stars Villa could look at

There are plenty of current Juve stars facing uncertain futures at the club as Thiago Motta goes about revamping his squad.

Federico Chiesa is one player who has been heavily linked with an exit and could be available for as little as £27 million.

The Old Lady are also looking at selling talented youngsters such as Matias Soule and Kaio Jorge.

But swap deals are rarely straightforward and it would require Villa being keen to take a different player, as well as the player agreeing to a switch to the Midlands.
