Report: 'Important' Sheffield Wednesday ace could still stay despite rumours of 'dead' contract talks

Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a boost in their bid to keep hold of an ‘important’ player.

Sheffield Wednesday have already tied Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan down to new contracts, while they are still waiting on three other players.

Cameron Dawson looks set to leave the club after 14 years, while Will Vaulks sealed a move to Oxford United last week.

Di’Shon Bernard will resume contract talks when he returns from Copa America, while it is still unclear whether Dominic Iorfa will put pen to paper.

Meanwhile, Josh Windass’ future at Hillsborough is looking bleak.

After netting three goals and Wednesday’s final three games, the club were eager to tie down Windass to a new contract this summer.

Reports had initially claimed they were closing in on fresh terms with the 30-year-old, however things clearly went downhill.

It emerged last week that Windass had rejected the latest contract offer and could now leave the club on a free transfer.

Windass has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Hull City, Derby County and Coventry City, while Real Salt Lake could look to lure him to the MLS.

What the midfielder’s contract situation could mean

The midfielder’s potential exit comes as a much bigger blow after Vaulks already chose to leave the club.

While he spent a large chunk of last season on the sidelines, Windass proved his importance when it came to the final run-in.

If he leaves the club then it could say a lot about what is going in behind the scenes, and it begs the question as to which details Windass is having issues with.
